Commissioner Karachi on Monday awarded the demolition contract for Nasla Tower to a company called ANI.
The contract was awarded after a committee comprising members from SBCA, KMC, FWO and NED University reviewed applications from various firms and shortlisted 3 of them for the task.
After a final round of deliberation, ANI was awarded the contract after a unanimous decision from the committee. Other applicants for the contract included Mir Enterprises, Tabani Group and Grand Demolition Company.
Nasla Tower is set to be demolished after the Supreme Court found the builder’s land deed faulty. The case has opened a pandora’s box and now a number of buildings all over the city are set to be demolished due to various technical issues on the orders of the SC and the Sindh High Court.
Residents of these buildings are currently tied up in court, where they have appealed for these orders to be repealed, claiming that while the land deeds for these buildings may be faulty, the residents and owners of the apartments spent money through legitimate means to buy property in these buildings and demolition would mean that citizens will not only lose billions of rupees but also be rendered homeless.
