The year 2023 has witnessed a disturbing surge in cases of child abductions and mysterious disappearances in the city, with over 250 children still unaccounted for. Data from the past 11 months reveals that a total of 1,255 children were reported missing during this period, out of which over 950 have been located, leaving the fate of more than 250 children unresolved.
According to Muhammad Ali, the head of a welfare organization, the reported cases include 15 children aged newborn to 5 years, 34 children aged 6 to 10 years, and 108 children aged 11 to 15 years. The missing children consist of 200 boys and over 50 girls.
The month of September witnessed the highest number of child abductions and disappearances, reaching a total of 165 cases. The Eastern District reported the highest number of missing children, with 98 cases in January, 112 in February, and 85 in March.
The trend continued with 48 cases in April, 91 in May, 132 in June, 122 in July, 164 in August, and 130 in October. November saw over 100 reported cases of missing children.
The rising numbers highlight a concerning issue that requires urgent attention and intervention from law enforcement agencies and community organizations to ensure the safety and well-being of the city’s children. Parents of missing children are left in distress, desperately seeking the whereabouts of their loved ones as the authorities grapple with addressing and resolving this alarming trend.
