The judicial commission was established on August 24 to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Mir Raza Ali. On October 1, the Sindh Cabinet approved an extension in the commission’s tenure.
Report to Be Submitted to Chief Minister
Justice Umar Sial, who headed the commission, said he would send the commission’s report along with its recommendations to the chief minister.
“The authority regarding the report will rest with the Chief Minister,” the commission said.
Mir Raza’s family has requested that the commission’s report be made public and provided to the heirs.
Barrister Jibran Nasir, who has represented the family, said the heirs want the judicial commission’s report to be provided to them.
Justice Umar Sial Says Questions Were Addressed
Justice Umar Sial said the commission made every effort to find answers to the questions raised by Mir Raza’s family.
“I made every effort to find answers to the family’s questions,” Justice Sial said.
He added that keeping the family informed during the proceedings could have prevented the situation from reaching its current stage.
“If the family had been kept informed, this day would not have come,” he said.
Justice Sial also stressed the importance of accountability, saying, “No one is above the law.”
Justice Sial Thanks Officials and Family
At the conclusion of the proceedings, Justice Sial thanked the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court for placing trust in him.
He also expressed gratitude to the Sindh chief minister, home minister and Faryal Talpur.
Justice Sial praised Mir Raza’s family, saying they had demonstrated high moral standards throughout the proceedings.
Advocate General Reprimanded
Justice Sial said the Advocate General had made a mistake during the proceedings and was reprimanded.
He also said witnesses who appeared before the commission were subjected to tough questioning as part of the proceedings.
The commission examined witness accounts and other relevant matters in an effort to address questions surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
Honorarium Recommended for Commission Staff
Justice Umar Sial also recommended an honorarium for the staff members who assisted the judicial commission during its proceedings.
He recommended that the Sindh government provide the commission’s staff with an honorarium equivalent to two basic salaries.
The commission’s final report and recommendations will now be submitted to the Sindh chief minister, while the family has called for the findings to be made public.
