University of Karachi’s Chairman of the Department of Islamic Learning, Prof Dr Muhammad Arif Khan Saqi, and the main accused in an assault case, Kunain Shah, have reached a compromise following a meeting at the professor’s residence.

According to Prof Arif Saqi, Kunain Shah visited his home and apologised for the incident. The professor said he accepted the apology and forgave Shah after he expressed remorse over his actions.
“As a teacher, I believe he should have realised his mistake,” Prof Saqi said, stressing that people should respect others and not treat them “so mercilessly.”
He added that Shah had understood the lesson from the incident.
Prof Saqi said Kunain Shah had also fully repaired the car damaged during the incident, with the financial loss compensated.
He added that the owner of the vehicle was satisfied with the settlement.
Earlier, a Malir district court granted bail to Shah in connection with the case.
The Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate-X of Malir approved his bail against a surety bond of Rs20,000, following which Shah was released from custody.
The case arose after Prof Saqi was allegedly assaulted and held at a hotel in Karachi following a road-rage incident.
According to Prof Saqi’s account, the incident occurred near Safoora Goth while he was travelling towards the University of Karachi.
He said a double-cabin vehicle collided with his car. Prof Saqi claimed that he asked the occupants to compensate him for the damage and provide their contact information.
According to his account, the occupants and their security guards subsequently assaulted him and his driver, allegedly striking them on the head with the butt of a rifle.
Police later arrested five people in connection with the case, according to reports.
Kunain Shah was named as the main accused in the case and initially remained at large. Police reportedly conducted raids at several locations in an effort to arrest him.
A case was registered at Sachal Police Station on Prof Saqi’s complaint, naming Kunain Ali Gohar Shah and others as accused.
The latest settlement came after Shah visited Prof Saqi’s residence and apologised for the incident.
