Karachi witnessed an overall rise in reported crime in August compared with July, with motorcycle theft, mobile phone snatching and other property-related offences recording increases, according to data released by Citizens Police Liaison Committee.

Motorcycle theft remained the city’s biggest reported crime, with 2,678 cases recorded in August compared with 2,648 in July – an increase of 30 cases.
Motorcycle snatching also increased, rising from 492 cases in July to 502 in August, while mobile phone snatching climbed by 38 cases, from 1,846 to 1,884.
Homicide cases also saw an increase, with 44 murders reported in August compared with 40 in July.

Four-wheeler theft rose from 110 cases in July to 124 in August, an increase of 14 cases. Four-wheeler snatching also increased from 12 to 16 cases during the same period.
Despite the rise in several major crime categories, extortion cases recorded a significant decline. Eight extortion cases were reported in August compared with 18 in July, marking a decrease of 10 cases.
Kidnapping for ransom remained at zero in both months. Similarly, no bank robberies or dacoities were reported in either July or August.
The month-on-month figures indicate that property-related offences, particularly motorcycle theft and mobile phone snatching, continued to pose a significant challenge for Karachi in August.
It is pertinent to mention here that Karachi witnessed a sharp decline in street crime and vehicle theft during the first six months of 2026, but the gains were offset by a significant increase in attacks on police personnel and reported sexual violence, according to comparative crime statistics released by the Central Police Office (CPO) Sindh.
