A young man was shot dead while allegedly resisting a robbery at an LPG shop near Liaquatabad 10, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Shahzad, was working at the LPG shop when two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle arrived at the premises.
Another youth, 15-year-old Tayab, was also present at the shop at the time of the incident.
Police said the suspects entered the shop and demanded Shahzad’s motorcycle. When he allegedly refused to hand it over, the armed men opened fire.
A bullet struck Shahzad in the head, killing him at the scene, according to police.
The suspects then fled with Shahzad’s motorcycle, mobile phone and cash. Police said the robbers abandoned their own motorcycle while escaping from the area.
Police have taken the motorcycle allegedly used by the suspects into custody and are investigating the incident.
Authorities are also working to identify and arrest the armed men involved in the robbery and killing.
Earlier to this, Karachi witnessed a sharp decline in street crime and vehicle theft during the first six months of 2026, but the gains were offset by a significant increase in attacks on police personnel and reported sexual violence, according to comparative crime statistics released by the Central Police Office (CPO) Sindh.
The data, covering January 1 to June 30, 2026, shows that the city recorded 16,463 cognizable offences, a marginal increase of 80 cases (0.49 percent) compared to 16,383 cases during the same period last year.
Despite the overall stability in crime numbers, the statistics reveal a notable shift in Karachi’s crime landscape, with property crimes declining while violent crimes against law enforcement and women increased.
