PSX Closes Lower as Selling Pressure Weighs on Index

The Pakistan Stock Exchange closed lower on Thursday, with the KSE-100 Index falling 206.60 points, or 0.11%, to 180,104.61.
Cnergyico PK led trading volumes, while Pakistan Refinery and Crescent Textile Mills were among the notable gainers.
Overall market breadth remained negative as 269 stocks declined against 197 advancing.

Pakistan’s benchmark stock index closed lower on Thursday, with the market coming under mild selling pressure despite gains in several heavyweight and actively traded stocks.

The benchmark index settled at 180,104.61 points, down 206.60 points, or 0.11%, from the previous close of 180,311.21. During the session, the index moved between an intraday high of 181,433.85 and a low of 180,035.92.

Market breadth remained negative, with 269 stocks declining against 197 advancing, while 97 remained unchanged out of 563 traded securities.

Trading activity was substantial, with market volume reaching 388.90 million shares and traded value standing at approximately Rs21.95 billion.

Among the most actively traded stocks, Cnergyico PK Limited (CNERGY) led the volume chart with 247.07 million shares, closing at Rs13.68 after gaining Rs0.57. Beco Steel (BECO) followed with 103.80 million shares, but its share price fell Rs0.46 to Rs5.11.

Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) was among the notable gainers, rising Rs5.93 to close at Rs76.73, with 40.24 million shares changing hands. The stock traded as high as Rs77.88 and as low as Rs68.23 during the session.

D.S. Industries Limited (DSIL), however, declined Rs1.51 to Rs13.56 on volume of 39.09 million shares. WorldCall Telecom (WTL) edged up Rs0.01 to Rs1.21, with 26.03 million shares traded.

Other actively traded stocks included The Crescent Textile Mills (THCCL), which gained Rs3.36 to close at Rs77.61 on 19.61 million shares, while Bank of Punjab (BOP) advanced Rs0.18 to Rs34.58 with 16.20 million shares changing hands.

The broader exchange recorded 891.33 million shares in volume, with total traded value reaching Rs36.69 billion and 413,524 trades reported.

A day earlier, PSX closed higher with the benchmark index gaining 464.53 points, or 0.26%, to settle at 180,311.21.

The market opened and traded between an intraday high of 180,901.26 and a low of 179,920.10, compared with the previous close of 179,846.68.

Of the 563 stocks traded, 249 advanced, 211 declined and 103 remained unchanged, indicating a relatively mixed market despite the overall gain in the benchmark index.
