The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a public advisory warning overseas Pakistanis against using unauthorized consultants, agents, or third-party websites for identity document processing services.

According to NADRA, no private individual, company, or service provider anywhere in the world has been authorized to accept applications, collect payments, or process identity documents on behalf of the authority.

The advisory mainly targets overseas Pakistanis who frequently rely on intermediaries to process documents such as Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis applications from abroad.

NADRA urged applicants to use only its official online platforms, including the Pak Identity Portal and the official Pak Identity mobile application for all digital services.

The authority said these platforms allow overseas Pakistanis to apply for CNICs, NICOPs, renewals, modifications, and other services directly from home without involving any middleman.

The latest warning comes after repeated cases involving fake websites and fraudulent social media pages pretending to represent NADRA or its partners.

According to the authority, some fake platforms have falsely claimed to offer NADRA card services, expedited processing, and even fake employment opportunities linked to NADRA.

Officials warned that such fraudulent websites may misuse applicants’ personal information, documents, and online payments, potentially exposing citizens to identity theft, financial fraud, and cybercrime.

NADRA further stated that some of these fake operations have already been reported to cybercrime authorities for investigation and legal action.

The authority advised overseas Pakistanis to submit applications only through official NADRA digital channels or by visiting authorized NADRA counters and desks located at Pakistani embassies and consulates abroad.

Citizens have also been encouraged to verify all NADRA-related announcements through the authority’s official website, helplines, and verified social media accounts instead of relying on unverified advertisements or unofficial pages.

For guidance regarding applications, document requirements, or complaints, overseas Pakistanis can contact NADRA through its official customer support channels without paying additional fees to any consultant or agent.

The advisory reflects growing concerns over online fraud targeting overseas Pakistanis seeking identity and documentation services from abroad. NADRA has repeatedly emphasized that using official platforms remains the safest method to protect personal information and avoid scams.

Earlier to this, a growing number of Pakistani citizens are reporting a serious administrative issue in which living individuals are mistakenly declared deceased in the NADRA records.

According to NADRA officials, the authority does not independently declare any citizen dead. Instead, the system relies on death certificates issued by Union Councils.

Once a death certificate is officially registered at the local level, NADRA automatically updates its database and changes the individual’s status to deceased.

Officials explained that errors typically occur in two situations. In some cases, a family member may mistakenly obtain a death certificate for the wrong person.

In other cases, clerical mistakes or incorrect identity number entries at the Union Council level can lead to wrong data being entered into the system.

What citizens must do to correct the record

NADRA has clarified that correction is only possible after the original death certificate is cancelled by the issuing Union Council.

The affected citizen must first visit the relevant Union Council office and request formal cancellation of the incorrect death record. Once the Union Council updates its records, NADRA can proceed with restoring the individual’s status as living.

After cancellation, the citizen must visit a NADRA registration center and complete biometric verification. Following verification, the system is updated and identity documents are reactivated.

Officials emphasize that NADRA cannot directly override Union Council records, as all changes must follow the official documentation chain.
