Residents in several areas of Karachi are expected to face a temporary gas outage due to scheduled pipeline lowering work near the NIPA Flyover on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route, according to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
In a statement, SSGC said the operation involves 16-inch and 20-inch high-pressure gas pipelines located near the NIPA Flyover on the BRT route. The work is being carried out on the request of TransKarachi.

According to the utility company, the planned gas shutdown will begin from 10:00pm on Saturday and continue until 5:00am on Sunday. However, officials warned that due to the technical complexity of the operation, work may continue until 8:00am.
During the suspension, gas supply will remain unavailable in several residential and commercial areas across the city.
The affected localities include:
All blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Lines Area, PHS Society, Saddar, parts of Kharadar, Lyari, Garden, and nearby areas.

SSGC also confirmed that several major institutions will be affected by the temporary shutdown, including Liaquat National Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, and Karachi Central Prison.
The company further stated that consumers in the SITE Industrial Area may experience low gas pressure during the maintenance work.

SSGC apologised for the inconvenience and advised residents and businesses to make necessary arrangements in advance.
The pipeline lowering work is part of ongoing infrastructure adjustments linked to Karachi’s BRT development projects, which have previously required temporary utility disruptions in different parts of the city.
