In a move aimed at promoting inclusive education, the Sindh Education Department has approved the introduction of Hindu religious textbooks for Hindu students in public schools across the province.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Sindh Curriculum Council held on April 20, 2026, as reported by local media, citing officials.
Under the new plan, three religious books will be introduced for Hindu students from Grades III to V, starting from the academic year 2026–27.

Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah directed the initiative, which aims to provide students with education aligned with their religious beliefs.
The Sindh Textbook Board will be responsible for distributing the textbooks, while a local Hindu welfare organization has been allowed to publish them for the upcoming academic year.

Officials said that funding for the publication of these books will be allocated in the next academic cycle to ensure sustainability of the initiative.
The textbooks will be distributed among Hindu students enrolled in government schools across Sindh, where more than 129,000 Hindu students are currently studying.

The report revealed that the districts such as Tharparkar and Umerkot have the highest number of Hindu students in public schools.
Authorities stated that the initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure minority representation in education and provide equal learning opportunities for all communities.
