The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), in a joint operation with intelligence agencies, has foiled a major terrorism plot in Sindh and arrested five suspected militants linked to a banned outfit, officials said.

Addressing a press conference, DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar Mahesar and SSP Operations Irfan Bahadur revealed that the suspects were affiliated with the banned group Baloch Republican Guard (BRG) and were involved in multiple low-intensity explosions targeting railway infrastructure.

According to officials, the arrested suspects include Commander Jhanwar, Ali Jan, Noor Muhammad, Jamak, and Niaz. Authorities recovered explosives, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and weapons from their possession.

The suspects were allegedly involved in attacks on railway tracks and train bogies in areas including Shikarpur and Jacobabad.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to carrying out at least six low-intensity blasts over the past few months. These include incidents on June 18, 2025, in Jacobabad, July 28, 2025, in Shikarpur, and an attack on the Jaffar Express on October 7.

They also admitted involvement in sabotage activities carried out in December 2025 and January 2026.

DIG CTD stated that the arrested individuals had links to a neighbouring country, which allegedly provided funding and support. The suspects received training in Lehri, Balochistan, where they were also supplied with explosives.

To avoid detection, the militants reportedly transported explosives along with their families, making it harder for law enforcement agencies to track their movements.

CTD officials said the network was identified through technical intelligence and careful surveillance. Further operations are underway in coordination with federal intelligence agencies to arrest facilitators and handlers linked to the group.

Authorities maintained that no major terrorism incidents were recorded in Sindh during 2025, attributing this to the continuous efforts of law enforcement agencies. Officials also stated that no major security threat has been identified ahead of Eid.
