The Sindh government announced to provide five million free pink electric scooties to women across the province, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said.
The announcement came during a ceremony held in Karachi to mark International Women’s Day, where 300 pink electric scooties were distributed among women by the Department of Transport and Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA).

Speaking at the event, Memon confirmed that no personal references or recommendations would be needed to receive a scooty. Women would only need to provide a valid driving license and proof of education or employment to qualify.

“Free driving training is also being offered to women who need it,” Memon added.
The program aims to eliminate travel difficulties and fuel costs for working and studying women across Sindh.
More Steps for Women’s Mobility
This scooties initiative is part of a broader push by the Sindh government for women’s mobility and independence. The province already operates a Pink Bus Service with female drivers – a facility Memon described as rare globally.

He also highlighted that women are employed as dumper truck drivers in Tharparkar’s coal mining operations, calling it proof of the government’s commitment to female empowerment at every level.
The event was attended by provincial ministers, women assembly members, and social figures including Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and SMTA Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto.
Criteria for Distribution
The EV scooties will be distributed through a transparent balloting process conducted in the presence of representatives from both print and electronic media.
To maintain transparency, a committee consisting of officials from the Excise, Transport, and Finance departments, along with media representatives, will supervise the balloting process.
