What is Rabies?

Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. The virus is usually transmitted through the bite, scratch, or saliva of an infected animal.

Health specialists explain that once rabies symptoms appear, the disease is almost 100 percent fatal. However, they stress that immediate medical care after a dog bite – known as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) – can prevent the infection and save lives.
