The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has launched a major operation against gas theft and the illegal use of gas pressure machines across Karachi.
The company announced a zero-tolerance policy, warning that connections used for illegal gas extraction will be immediately disconnected.

Fines and Legal Action
SSGC has imposed penalties of up to Rs 500,000 on households found using pressure machines illegally.
In addition to fines, individuals involved in gas theft will face arrest, and criminal cases will now be filed in addition to financial penalties, a company spokesperson confirmed.
Safety Concerns
Officials warned that unsafe pressure machines have become hazardous, posing serious risks to residents’ lives.
Recent explosions in North Nazimabad and Soldier Bazaar were reportedly linked to these illegal devices.

“People installing pressure machines are effectively turning their homes into explosives,” the spokesperson said.

Teams equipped with modern detection tools have been deployed to check homes and monitor compliance.
The operation aims to prevent accidents, ensure fair gas distribution, and safeguard residents while curbing widespread gas theft in the city.
