The Ministry of Interior has approved a request to provide foolproof security to former Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed following concerns over threats to his life and that of his family.

The request was made by the Registrar’s Office through a letter dated January 27, seeking security for the retiring chief justice at his residence and during his travel.
According to the letter, Article 25(1) of the Supreme Court Rules provides for security to the chief justice even after retirement.
The Registrar’s Office stated that the lives of the former chief justice and his family were in grave danger and that security arrangements were necessary to prevent any untoward incident.
The letter requested security from both the Rangers and police for the former top judge and his family.
The Ministry of Interior has now approved the request.
Under the approved arrangement, former CJP Gulzar Ahmed will be provided a security squad comprising Rangers personnel and a police team.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed retired as Chief Justice of Pakistan on Tuesday, after completing his tenure as the country’s top judge.
The security arrangement will remain in place following his retirement amid the concerns cited by the Registrar’s Office.
