The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered action against illegal parking fee takers after it heard a petition against illegal parking fees, in which DMC officials and others appeared before the court.
Justice Iqbal Kalhoro of Sindh High Court said that there are people who are collecting illegal parking fees from place to place and those who are collecting parking fees are sitting on hooligans.
“If someone does not have Rs.20 when they go out with their families, these people harass them, why is no action taken against them?” the Judge asked
Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro said that the policemen say it is not our problem and the traffic police also shrug off responsibility.
The court asked what is the procedure for charging a parking fee is. If a car is parked outside someone’s house, is a fee also charged from its owner?
DMC Kemari’s lawyer said in response that there is no set procedure for it.
The court sought notification regarding parking fees of various vehicles on which DMC officials could not give notification. The court expressed strong displeasure at the DMC’s performance.
Later, the court adjourned the hearing till January 31.
