Karachi road rehabilitation will begin soon as PC-1s for most projects are ready, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi announced during a meeting reviewing the city’s deteriorating road conditions.
He said construction work will start immediately after approval of the PC-1s, aiming to address long-standing infrastructure issues affecting commuters and traffic flow across Karachi.
According to officials, the Town Municipal Corporations (TMC) will repair 453 internal roads across the city, including the important I.I. Chundrigar Road.

Meanwhile, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will undertake repair and rehabilitation work on 106 major roads under its jurisdiction, the meeting was informed.
The meeting on road conditions was chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi and attended by senior officials from relevant departments.
During discussions, it was decided to beautify I.I. Chundrigar Road, which serves as a key commercial and administrative artery of the city.

Authorities also agreed to improve the condition of M.A. Jinnah Road, due to its heavy traffic load and poor surface condition.
Officials briefed the commissioner that damaged roads are contributing to congestion, accidents, and increased vehicle maintenance costs for citizens.
The rehabilitation plan focuses on resurfacing, drainage improvement, and addressing long-neglected structural weaknesses in the road network.
To support smoother traffic flow, the meeting was informed that 31 new traffic signals will be installed at critical intersections across Karachi.

These signals aim to improve traffic management, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety for motorists and pedestrians.
The commissioner stressed that coordination among departments to ensure road repairs and signal installations are completed efficiently and on time.
He stressed that poor planning and lack of maintenance in previous years had worsened Karachi’s road infrastructure significantly.
