The District Central deputy commissioner on Thursday told the Sindh High Court (SHC) that the affectees of the anti-encroachment drive over Gujjar Nullah should not be compensated in any way since the buildings being demolished were built illegally.
The DC Central has said that his department will not provide any compensation to those who encroached upon the land designated for nullahs and storm drains.
He further said that legally the land for nullahs cannot be leased to the public and that the Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority (SKAA) handed out illegal leases to people. The DC also reminded the court that it was on the apex court’s orders that the anti-encroachment drive was being carried out and that the drive would result in saving human lives from rain-related catastrophes.
