Karachi has recorded more than 3,000 malaria cases in the first ten months of 2025, according to data released by the Sindh Health Department.

Data from the Vector Borne Disease (VBD) Control Programme in Hyderabad shows that from January 1 to October 15, a total of 84,452 individuals were screened, with 3,072 confirmed cases in Karachi alone.

Meanwhile, around 2,416,427 blood samples were tested across Sindh, out of these, 215,270 tested positive for malaria.

Despite the high case count, no malaria-related deaths have been reported in Sindh so far this year, according to Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho.

She highlighted the government’s commitment to eradicating malaria and managing other vector-borne diseases, stating that all available resources are being used to combat the issue.

Dr. Pechuho indicated that health teams throughout the province are actively conducting testing and treatment drives, alongside extensive spraying campaigns.

In rural areas, field teams are going door to door to distribute mosquito nets and educate communities on prevention.

The health minister also noted that the provincial government, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, is implementing a comprehensive plan to control diseases such as malaria and dengue.

She urged the public to keep their surroundings clean, eliminate standing water, and seek medical attention immediately if experiencing fever, chills, or other symptoms.

She reiterated that the ongoing anti-malaria campaign includes coordinated testing, treatment, and vector control as part of an integrated public health strategy.
