Statues of Hindu deities excavated in Karachi

Recent construction work at a temple in Soldier Bazar have led to discovery of ancient statues of Hindu deities. These excavations were made in the area adjacent to the Shri Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple and include figurines of Hanuman, Sheolinj, Ganesh and Nandi Mahraj along with other pots.

The temple itself holds immense importance for Hindus all over since it is believed to be the only temple where the natural statue of Bhagwan Hanuman, half-human half-monkey, is found. Devotees believe such naturally occurring statues hold special powers. These newly unearthed artifacts could be used to determine the age of the sanctuary currently believed to be about 1500 years old.

The land around the temple was under illegal occupation by squatters. After a long court suit, Supreme Court had ordered the illegal settlers to move out. The buildings around were demolished and land was being dug when laborers stumbled upon these archeological finds about a couple of feet deep as explained by Sharm Raam Natha, trustee of the Mandir. This only suggests that the surrounding buildings were part of the premises before being taken over unlawfully, he added. Rest of the excavations are being carried out carefully under the supervision of the Mahraj, as said by a servant.

Other news stated that the archaeological department has been notified and would visit the site soon on orders by Department Director, General Manzoor Ahmed Kinasero. The historical significance of the find would be then determined after scientific analysis.

On another note, these latest discoveries have led to a new wave of excited Hindus eagerly visiting the temple to view these artifacts.
