Federal Minister Musadik Malik and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited the Sewage Treatment Plant-III (TP-3) project. Water Corporation officials briefed the delegation about the project’s current status.

Malik said the federal government will fully support eco-friendly projects. He added that discussions will be held with KPT for TP-3 and TP-5 to ensure improvements.

Moreover, he emphasized that Karachi needs projects built on international standards.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab stated that sewage water will be treated before being supplied to industries. He said the treated water entering the sea will not harm marine life.

Currently, 35 million gallons of treated water are being discharged into the sea daily.

Musadik Malik further said such projects must directly benefit citizens and the city. He stressed that federal support will continue for Karachi’s sustainable development.

On the other hand, the K-IV project, aimed at providing clean water to Karachi, is expected to be completed by June 2026, according to WAPDA Chairman.

During a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Water Resources, he stated that while the project’s construction is on track, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has yet to plan the city’s water distribution system.

This delay in planning could result in a 2 to 3-year setback in making clean water available to Karachi residents after the project’s completion.

The water crisis in Karachi has escalated to critical levels, leaving citizens grappling with severe water shortages while authorities appear unable to provide solutions.
