Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced major progress in the digitalization of Pakistan’s ports.
Speaking in the National Assembly earlier this week, he said modernization efforts include transparency, innovation, and full integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by August 14.
During the question hour, Chaudhry dismissed claims of inefficiency, stressing that ports facilitate cargo rather than produce industrial goods.
He noted that port performance directly reflects the country’s trade volume and industrial activity. Despite challenges, Pakistan’s ports recorded a historic profit of Rs109.7 billion, which he said “speaks for itself.”
The minister confirmed that an AI-based system, AIMS, will go live on August 14. This will make the Ministry for Maritime Affairs the first federal ministry to implement AI at the operational level.
“With the Prime Minister’s AI policy in place, we are leading the way to make our ports more efficient. Our goal is to make them transparent and ready for the future,” he said.

Chaudhry also revealed that the Port Community System and Pakistan Single Window are being rolled out. These systems will address long-standing issues such as customs delays, revenue leakages, and port inefficiencies.
To tackle port-related theft, the ministry is coordinating with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs. They aim for stricter controls, faster clearance, and unified policy enforcement.
On the bunkering system, the minister welcomed input from lawmakers. He confirmed that a new bunkering policy will be announced soon. This policy aims to attract global investment in Pakistan’s maritime fuel supply chain.
Chaudhry reiterated his ministry’s focus on accountability, progress, and innovation. He thanked parliamentarians for acknowledging the improvements achieved in recent months. Additionally, he reaffirmed that the digitalization of Pakistan’s ports will continue to be a top priority.
