The Sindh government has decided to impose Section 144 in Sindh on August 14 to curb aerial firing during Independence Day celebrations.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar told reporters at the Sindh Assembly that firing in the air is a dangerous and wrongful act, especially during national celebrations.
He urged citizens to avoid such practices, stressing that Independence Day should be celebrated peacefully and responsibly.
According to the minister, Section 144 will be enforced for two days across the province to discourage aerial firing and other dangerous activities.
He said that the Sindh government is observing Independence Day with full enthusiasm, with both official and non-official events taking place in various cities.
The Karachi Police have also issued an awareness message warning against aerial firing.
The statement noted that such acts will be treated as attempted murder under the law. Citizens have been advised not to turn moments of happiness into sorrow by engaging in reckless celebrations.
Karachi will host several major events from August 11 to 14 across the city in account of Jashan-e-Azadi and Marka-e-Haq celebrations.
From August 11 to 13, “Azaadi Quaid ke Saath” will be held on Shahrah-e-Quaideen.
On August 12, the Mazar-e-Quaid will feature a special night-time projective illumination.
Sports activities include a Jashn-e-Azaadi Night Cricket Match in Keamari District and a sports gala at the Youth Development Sports Center in Gulistan-e-Johar.
On August 13, a grand musical concert is schedule to take place at National Stadium Karachi, in which Pakistan’s top artists including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam, Sajjad Ali, Sanam Marvi, and others will perform.
Other key activities on August 13 include a wreath-laying ceremony at Yadgar-e-Shuhada by Deputy Commissioner Malir.
On August 14, the main flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at the Quaid’s Mausoleum to mark Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day.
