Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has released its prediction for Eidul Adha, estimating when the holy festival is likely to be observed across the country.

Based on astronomical calculations related to the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon, SUPARCO has predicted that Eidul Adha in Pakistan is likely to be observed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

According to the space agency’s initial assessment, there is a strong possibility that the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH will be visible on Sunday evening, May 17.

SUPARCO stated that the new moon will be born at 1:01am on May 17. By sunset later that day, the moon’s age is expected to reach approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes, a duration generally considered favourable for naked-eye visibility.

The agency further explained that coastal regions of Pakistan are expected to experience a gap of nearly 60 minutes between sunset and moonset on May 17, increasing the likelihood of moon sighting.

Officials added that clear visibility of the crescent usually requires the moon to be close to 20 hours old, though weather conditions and atmospheric clarity also play an important role in confirmation.

Based on these astronomical calculations, Pakistan is expected to complete 29 days of Dhul Qadah, making May 18 the first day of Dhul Hijjah and Eid ul Adha likely to fall on May 27.

However, the final announcement regarding moon sighting and the official Eid date will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after its formal meeting chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
