For the first time in Pakistan, a group of students has built an Ablution Water Recycling System to reduce water waste and support environmental sustainability.
According to the reports, the project, named “Nahr Al Khair” (River of Goodness), has been installed at Jamia Masjid Ali in Buffer Zone, Karachi.
The system was developed by students from Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT). Their goal is to reuse the water used during ablution (wuzu) by filtering it through a three-stage system.
First, the water passes through a tank filled with natural filters like gravel, charcoal, and stones. These materials remove larger particles.

Next, it flows into a second tank that traps smaller pollutants.
Finally, the clean water enters a third tank where it seeps into the ground through soil and boreholes, helping recharge groundwater.
Experts say this filtration system can help address the ongoing water crisis in the area. Moreover, the students aim to raise awareness about water conservation at the community level.
