Senior legal figure Advocate Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot dead in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 6 inside a mosque, in what police believe may be a targeted attack.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Syed Asad Raza, both father and son were injured in the attack and initially taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
However, Khawaja Shamsul Islam later succumbed to his gunshot wounds; meanwhile, his son, whose identity has not been disclosed, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the shooting. Authorities have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and are also questioning potential eyewitnesses.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, although investigators are not ruling out professional or personal enmity.

He sustained a gunshot wound to his hand and multiple injuries to his head and ear. Police at the time attributed the attack to a personal dispute.
Despite the attack, Islam had resumed work shortly afterward.
