Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved a major infrastructure project along Shahrah-e-Bhutto from Qayyumabad to Karachi Port to improve port traffic flow and city connectivity.
The new corridor will provide direct access for port traffic to the Motorway, which officials say will be a game-changer for Pakistan’s logistics and trade network.
A meeting held at CM House discussed the plan, with key attendees including Saeed Ghani, Murtaza Wahab, Qasim Naveed, Asif Hyder Shah, and other provincial officials.
Chief Minister Shah said the new corridor will support freight movement from the port and reduce heavy traffic pressure on residential roads.
He confirmed the corridor, stretching from Korangi Causeway to Kathore, will be fully opened to the public by December 2025 to support logistics and industrial movement.
The CM also announced that the Link Road, connecting the National Highway to the Motorway via industrial areas like Korangi and Port Qasim, will open shortly.
A private company has proposed a 16.5-kilometre road under the DFOT model. This includes a 10.4-kilometre elevated section from Jam Sadiq Interchange to East Wharf.
The elevated section will connect key points like Boat Basin and Ziauddin Chowrangi, enabling uninterrupted traffic movement between the port and inner Karachi.
Murad Ali Shah emphasized the corridor will support both light and heavy vehicles, with interchanges designed for nearby residential and commercial areas.
A traffic study has already been conducted, and CM Shah has instructed officials to fast-track NOCs and environmental clearances from all relevant departments.
The government is also speeding up other infrastructure works, including the Red Line BRT project and the redesign of the Sohrab Goth roundabout.
Shah assured the public that these development efforts will not only reduce congestion but also improve the overall functionality and appearance of Karachi.
He added that once completed, these projects will boost trade, increase mobility, and bring long-term economic benefits to the residents of the city.
