NICVD rejects claims of inquiry committee formed by Sindh govt

NICVD allegation

The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Karachi, has strongly denied allegations linked to an inquiry initiated by the Sindh Health Department following audit observations and media reports.

In an official statement, NICVD clarified that the Auditor General Sindh’s report consists of routine audit observations, which are common in all government departments.

The hospital further stated that these observations are not final verdicts but preliminary questions aimed at ensuring financial transparency. Labeling them as confirmed corruption is misleading and unfair, the institute said.

NICVD highlighted that these audit findings are still under review and that it is actively responding to each point with proper documentation.

The administration said jumping to conclusions without a full investigation damages public trust and spreads unnecessary confusion.

Importantly, the institute noted that the audit report (No. 24-2023) mentions appointments and events from the years 2017–2018 and earlier.

However, Executive Director Prof. Tahir Sagheer took charge only in November 2023. Despite this, the current administration has committed to submitting a complete and responsible response to all audit questions.

NICVD assured that it will fully cooperate with the inquiry committee formed by the Sindh Health Department and will provide all relevant records to clarify any concerns.

Rejecting what it called baseless allegations, NICVD reaffirmed its dedication to providing high-quality and completely free heart care services to patients across the country. The institute also stated that it remains committed to expanding its services and upholding transparency and accountability in all its operations.
