PMD forecasts expected date for monsoon rains in Karachi

Karachi Monsoon rain

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast expected dates for monsoon rains in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.

Starting from June 25 and continuing until June 28 with occasional breaks the Met Office predicted that, rain, wind, and thundershowers are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and other parts of upper and southeastern Sindh.

Moist currents from the Arabian Sea are entering the region and are expected to intensify in the coming days.

Karachiites should brace for humid weather with chances of scattered rainfall, especially during the night and morning hours.

As per PMD, the westerly wave, expected to hit upper Pakistan on June 25, may also influence the southern regions, bringing unstable weather conditions.

The PMD has also warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi and Hyderabad between June 26 and June 28, especially if heavy downpours occur in a short time.

Authorities have been asked to stay alert and take necessary measures. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during heavy rain, and report any emergencies to the local disaster management authorities.

Strong winds and lightning may also occur during the rain, possibly damaging weak structures, trees, electric poles, or billboards. The PMD urged farmers and travelers to plan their activities keeping the forecast in mind.

Residents of Karachi, who have already seen light showers this week, welcomed the rain after a long dry and hot spell, though concerns over flooding and power outages remain high.
