Karachi weather: ‘Feels-Like’ temperature to soar near 49°C

Karachi Weather

Karachi is facing intense heat, with the ‘feels-like’ temperature expected to climb between 43°C and 49°C, making Friday one of the hottest days of the summer so far.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city’s actual temperatures will range from 37°C to 39°C, but the lack of sea breeze and dry winds are worsening the impact.

Experts say a heatwave system, fuelled by wind circulation from Gujarat in India and a western weather front, is intensifying temperatures across Karachi and parts of interior Sindh.

The PMD warns that this hot and dry spell will likely continue for the next few days, with very little chance of cooling relief during this period.

However, some relief may come by Saturday evening, when a pre-monsoon weather system is expected to affect eastern Sindh with chances of rain, winds, and thunderstorms.

Areas like Tharparkar and Umarkot may see isolated rainfall, while Ghotki, Sukkur, Jacobabad, and surrounding cities are forecast to get rain and strong winds on Sunday.

Meteorologists believe increased wind activity from India’s Gujarat might accelerate pre-monsoon rainfall in Sindh over the coming days, although Karachi remains mostly dry for now.

Across Pakistan, the heatwave continues to grip major regions. Lahore hit 44°C on Thursday, with a heat index of 47°C due to dry and humid conditions.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Peshawar touched 40°C with high humidity, while Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu peaked at 47°C. Southern Punjab and Cholistan saw readings close to 48°C.

The PMD has advised people to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and take special care of children, the elderly, and the sick during this extreme spell.
