NADRA ends CNIC services at post offices nationwide

NADRA CNIC services at post offices

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially suspended the services of Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) at post offices across Pakistan.

According to a statement issued by NADRA, the move comes after a low public response and a lack of awareness about the facility’s availability.

NADRA had launched CNIC services at GPOs three years ago. These included ID card renewal, address updates, and marital status changes at city post offices.

A 10-year agreement was signed between NADRA and Pakistan Post after which counters were established in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, and other major cities across the country.

Despite reduced crowds at NADRA centres, the initiative failed to attract public, while the officials stated that the limited publicity and outreach caused the public to miss out on the GPO-based service.

NADRA has now asked staff to return all equipment and fees. The closure affects 83 counters in all provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials stated that the equipment previously installed at post offices was underutilized and could be repurposed more effectively.

By relocating CNIC registration operations to union councils, NADRA aims to streamline the registration process while ensuring improved data security and accessibility for the public.
