The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of upcoming heatwave conditions starting from April 13, affecting most parts of the country.

As per the heatwave alert, a high-pressure system is expected to develop over the upper atmosphere, leading to a sharp increase in temperatures, especially in southern and central regions.

Southern Pakistan, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, could see daytime temperatures rise 6 to 8°C above normal from April 13 to 18.

Meanwhile, central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may see a 4 to 6°C temperature rise from April 14 onwards.

The PMD also noted that nights during this period will be warmer than usual, adding to public discomfort and health concerns in affected areas.

As excessive heat builds up, the chances of windstorms or dust storms also increase, which may pose risks to infrastructure and transportation.

The general public, especially children, women, and the elderly, are strongly advised to avoid direct sunlight and remain well-hydrated throughout the day.

Farmers have been urged to adjust harvesting schedules, especially for wheat, and take measures to protect crops and livestock from the extreme heat.

In northern regions, the rising temperatures could speed up snowmelt, potentially increasing water flow in rivers and causing further weather-related changes.

Authorities are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related health issues and damage from high winds or storms.
