The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on Monday issued an alert, barring citizens from purchasing and imposing a ban on the sale of fake antibiotic injections manufactured locally in the country.
As per the alert, DRAP has recalled the product – supplied in Balochistan – after the lab in Quetta termed batch 007 of the Maxpan suspension antibiotic injection as fake.
The regulatory authority has banned the use of Maxpan suspension and has banned the supply and sale of 100 MG antibiotic injections.
DRAP stated that the sample quality test of the medicine failed to meet the standard, as Cefixime salt was not confirmed in the sample.

The details on the packaging of the counterfeit batches of Maxpan Suspension are also misleading.
In response, DRAP has directed the field force and provincial drug control authorities to intensify market surveillance and seize the counterfeit injection from circulation.
The alert also calls on the Balochistan government to trace the suppliers responsible for distributing the fake medicine.
Distributors have been advised to inspect their stock for the affected batch and report any findings to DRAP. Both doctors and patients are urged to avoid using the counterfeit suspension.
