Atiq Mir, president of the All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, expressed grave concerns over K-Electric’s performance, stressing the detrimental impact of its practices on citizens and businesses.
During a media talk at a seminar at Karachi Press Club, Mir accused the power utility of operating without accountability and criticized the government for failing to take action against it since its privatization in 2005.
“What kind of institution is this? No matter what their practices are, no one will take action against it,” He said.
Mir pointed out that inflated electricity bills have caused significant financial distress to both citizens and business communities in the port city alike.
He claimed corruption within K-Electric has led to exorbitant billing practices that burden both households and businesses.
“Every bill delivered is bring immense trouble,” he remarked, adding that many are unable to cope with the rising costs.
Many businesses, he said, are on the verge of collapse due to financial pressures stemming from high energy costs.
He noted that some individuals have resorted to suicide under the strain of mounting electricity bills.
Mir also criticized the government, accusing it of making only promises without addressing the real issues faced by the public.
He warned that if authorities continue to neglect these problems, the frustration among citizens could spark widespread protests.
