Karachi consumers to get relief in power tariff

The power consumers in Karachi are likely to get some relief in tariffs as Kot Addo Power Company Limited (KEPCO) has proposed supplying solar energy to K-Electric at an affordable rate of Rs 9.8 per unit.

The project, aimed at providing cheap and environmentally friendly electricity, awaits final approval from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

KEPCO shared project details with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), stating that the electricity cost, pegged at Rs 288.65 per dollar, translates to 3.4 US cents per kilowatt-hour.

The company plans to establish the solar energy project in Deh Halkani, located in Karachi’s District West.

Meanwhile, K-Electric is also advancing its efforts to transition to sustainable energy sources with a 640 MW alternative energy project in the pipeline.

NEPRA had scheduled a public hearing on K-Electric’s alternative energy initiatives, but the session was postponed due to the current political situation in Islamabad.
