Pakistan Railways has suspended all train services connecting Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar in response to ongoing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests in Islamabad.
Key routes, including Peshawar to Rawalpindi, Lahore to Rawalpindi, and Multan and Faisalabad to Rawalpindi, have been fully shut down.
Railway officials confirmed that all 25 scheduled trains for Sunday, November 24, were canceled, with passengers assured of full ticket refunds.
Temporary ticket refund counters have been established outside railway stations to facilitate passengers.
Meanwhile, railway stations across these routes remain sealed, with platform access entirely restricted.
A heavy police presence has been deployed to ensure security and prevent any unfortunate incidents.
Earlier in the day, Karachi police have been placed on high alert in response to the ongoing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests, according to media reports.
Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has directed all police personnel to remain vigilant and prepared to handle any emergency situations.
He instructed all DIGs and SSPs to stay available at all times, ensuring that police stations were fully alert.
To maintain law and order, additional personnel have been put on standby, and increased patrolling and visibility in the city have been emphasized.
Odho stated, “We are prepared to handle any emergency situation,” and stressed the importance of ensuring police presence is visible in the current circumstances.
As security measures are heightened nationwide, around 1257 PTI workers have been detained in the Multan division, including members of the national and provincial assemblies.
