The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued bailable arrest warrants for four accused individuals in the Murtaza Bhutto murder case, as reported by ARY News on Monday.
The high court, currently hearing appeals against the acquittal of police officers involved in the case, noted the absence of the accused—Ghulam Mustafa, Gulzar Ahmed, Zafar Ahmed, and Asghar Memon—during the hearing. Additionally, the court rejected the plea of former police officer Wajid Durrani seeking exemption from appearing in court.
The brother of the late Shahid Hayat, former police chief of Karachi, approached the court to pursue the appeal, which was granted by the court.
Lawyers representing the case informed the court that four police officers, including Shahid Hayat, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, Agha Muhammad Jameel, and Masood Sharif, have passed away.
In response, the bench directed the concerned Station House Officers (SHOs) to verify this information and submit a report to the court.
Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto emphasized the court’s intention to address the appeal, which has been pending since 2010.
The bench has summoned further details of the case to be presented by April 22.
Noor Muhammad, Mir Murtaza Bhutto’s servant, had filed an appeal in the high court in 2010 against the acquittal of the accused in the high-profile murder case.
