Japanese company proposes ferry service at Port Qasim

A Japanese company has presented a proposal to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to initiate a ferry service from Do Darya to Port Qasim in Clifton and introduce various water sports facilities at barrages and lakes in the province. The proposal was put forward by the Head of Central Asia and Middle East of Yamaha Japan during a meeting with the Chief Minister on Tuesday, as reported by Dawn newspaper.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah highlighted the potential for water sports facilities at Kenjhar, Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages with the cooperation of Yamaha Pakistan. He expressed that these opportunities could be realized through the support of the private sector.

The representative from Yamaha shared the idea of starting a ferry service from Do Darya to Port Qasim, catering to transportation and entertainment needs. Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized the suitability of Yamaha Wave Runners, also known as Personal Watercraft (PWC) or water scooters, for water sports activities.

It is worth noting that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had previously announced plans to develop a jetty at Sea View, which would facilitate a ferry service from the Clifton area to the newly developed Manora waterfront beach. However, sources indicate that work on the jetty development project has not yet commenced.

In a separate meeting with a delegation of Special Olympians, the Sindh Chief Minister pledged to establish special sports centers for the Special Olympics in the province. He also announced the appointment of Mahfouz Abid, a Special Olympian with expertise in the IT sector, as an Information Technology (IT) officer in the Chief Minister’s House. The government aims to create employment opportunities for the Special Olympians in Sindh.

The Chief Minister commended Team Special Olympics Pakistan for their participation in international competitions, including the upcoming Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. He expressed his commitment to building world-class sports centers with comprehensive facilities for the Special Olympics, fostering an environment of inclusivity and support for athletes with special needs.
