Extortion calls from Dubai and Iran target Karachi business community

In a concerning development, members of the business community in Karachi have reported an uptick in extortion calls originating from Dubai and Iran. The Karachi police have taken swift action by arresting two suspects involved in these illicit activities.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Specialized Investigation Unit, Junaid Sheikh, highlighted the recent surge in extortion incidents in Karachi. According to him, a person engaged in the real estate sector received an extortion call, and the police successfully traced the call back to Dubai.

SSP Junaid Sheikh revealed that the perpetrators were operating from abroad, specifically from Dubai and Iran. The arrested suspects, identified as individuals involved in the construction industry, were found to be receiving extortion payments. The police have intensified their efforts, conducting raids to apprehend other individuals linked to this criminal network.

The rise in extortion calls targeting the business community has raised concerns about the involvement of international elements in such criminal activities. The Karachi police are actively working to dismantle the network and ensure the safety and security of the local business community. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to assist in curbing this growing threat.
