Mobile average revenue per user (ARPU) in Pakistan surges to Rs. 278 monthly in Q3 2023

Pakistan witnessed a notable increase in Mobile Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) during July-September 2023, reaching Rs. 278 per month, as revealed in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) Annual Report for 2023.

The fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23) saw an upswing in ARPU, climbing from Rs. 220.2 in the preceding fiscal year (FY22) to Rs. 247.8 per month.

Jazz and Ufone emerged as standout performers, experiencing remarkable ARPU growth rates of 18.8 percent and 13.3 percent, respectively. Telenor and Zong also achieved growth, with ARPU rising by 8.3 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively. Jazz’s ARPU surpassed Rs. 354 per month in Q3 2023, contributing to the industry’s overall ARPU of Rs. 278.

The data revenue currently constitutes 65 percent of the total revenue in Pakistan’s mobile industry, underscoring the significance of promoting broadband and digital service adoption to enhance the industry’s overall ARPU.

In terms of Data ARPU, FY23 witnessed an increase to Rs. 242 per month, a modest rise from the previous year’s Rs. 236.9 per month, despite a decline in the effective price per GB. This growth in Data ARPU is attributed to the escalating trend of increased data usage, surging from 6.5 GB per subscriber per month to 7.3 GB in FY23, reflecting a substantial 12.3 percent increase.
