The University of Karachi (KU) has taken a progressive step towards enhancing efficiency and convenience for students by deciding to issue equivalence certificates online. The decision was made during a special meeting of the Equivalence Committee, which was presided over by KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi. The meeting, held at the VC Council Room on Tuesday, focused on streamlining the process of providing equivalence certificates to students.
Under the new initiative, the Equivalence Committee will convene regularly to ensure timely and efficient processing of applications. Students who are already registered at institutions and madaris approved and recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad will receive immediate issuance of equivalence certificates.
Furthermore, the meeting emphasized that graduate applicants who submit HEC equivalence or registration certificates from their respective accreditation councils will be granted equivalence certificates without requiring additional comments from the concerned department. For cases without these documents, the application process will be conducted through the relevant departments.
In the context of MPhil and PhD equivalence cases, the meeting decided that they would be processed through the concerned deans/chairpersons, adhering to established practices.
Professor Dr Iqbal Azhar, the Convener of the KU Equivalence Committee, shared that the online submission process for equivalence certificates would be initiated soon, enhancing accessibility and ease for students. This transformation is expected to expedite the issuance of certificates and provide students with a seamless experience.
During the meeting, the deans of all faculties were present, reflecting the university’s collective commitment to enhancing administrative processes and promoting student satisfaction.
The introduction of online equivalence certificates issuance is anticipated to streamline procedures, reduce paperwork, and facilitate students in their academic pursuits at the University of Karachi.
