PSX Falls 1,109 Points as KSE-100 Index Settles at 176,846

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 1,109.14 points, or 0.62%, to settle at 176,846.36 amid broad-based selling pressure.

The index opened at a relatively stronger level but came under pressure during the session, touching an intraday high of 178,942.31 before falling to a low of 176,638.10. The benchmark had closed at 177,955.50 in the previous session.

Trading activity remained substantial, with market-wide volume reaching 787.89 million shares and the traded value standing at Rs39.57 billion. A total of 431,091 trades were recorded.

Market breadth remained negative, with 271 stocks closing lower against 185 gainers, while 109 remained unchanged. Of the 565 stocks traded, declining issues outnumbered advancing stocks, indicating broad weakness across the market.

On the Main Board, Cnergyico PK Limited (CNERGY) emerged as the most actively traded stock, with 217.46 million shares changing hands. The stock closed at Rs14.01, down Rs0.78, after trading between Rs13.60 and Rs14.90.

Fauji Cement Company (FCL) gained Rs1.28 to close at Rs28.79, with 27.38 million shares traded. Arif Habib Corporation-related stock ASL also advanced, rising Rs0.52 to Rs15.29 on volume of 27.21 million shares.

K-Electric (KEL) declined Rs0.08 to Rs7.18, with 26.20 million shares traded, while WorldCall Telecom (WTL) remained unchanged at Rs1.19 after 20.08 million shares changed hands.

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) closed at Rs28.49, down Rs0.19, on volume of 17.56 million shares.

Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) was among the notable decliners, falling Rs2.01 to Rs83.37. The stock traded as high as Rs86.90 and as low as Rs81.50, with 16.95 million shares changing hands.

The session reflected a cautious tone across the exchange as investors appeared to lock in gains in several actively traded stocks, weighing on the benchmark despite continued participation in selected energy, cement and other high-volume counters.

A day earlier, PSX closed sharply lower, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index falling 2,546.94 points, or 1.41%, to settle at 177,955.50.

The index remained under pressure throughout the session, hitting an intraday high of 180,602.44 and a low of 177,866.04. The previous close was recorded at 180,502.44.

Trading activity remained robust, with 511.87 million shares changing hands on the index, while the reported market value stood at Rs34.77 billion.

Across the broader market, 563 stocks were traded. Of these, 104 advanced, 368 declined and 91 remained unchanged, reflecting broad-based selling pressure.
