Thousands of Pakistani nationals living in Spain without legal immigration status have reportedly secured an opportunity to regularize their stay under a Spanish residency scheme, according to officials familiar with the process.

The development comes as Spain continues implementing measures aimed at allowing eligible undocumented migrants to obtain legal residency after fulfilling specific requirements set by Spanish immigration authorities.

Officials said that approximately 24,000 Pakistanis working illegally in Spain are expected to benefit from the regularization initiative, which provides a pathway to legal residency and greater access to employment and social protections.

To facilitate the process, Pakistani authorities launched a documentation campaign to help citizens complete the necessary legal formalities before the application deadline.

According to officials, Pakistan has issued around 8,000 passports, 24,000 character certificates, and 10,000 affidavits to support applicants seeking residency under the Spanish scheme.

The documents are among the requirements needed by many applicants to establish identity, background information, and compliance with immigration procedures outlined by Spanish authorities.

Government officials said the effort was undertaken to ensure that eligible Pakistanis residing in Spain could submit complete applications and avoid delays caused by missing documentation.

The Spanish regularization program is designed to provide legal status to undocumented migrants who meet specific eligibility criteria, including proof of residence and other administrative requirements.

For many Pakistani workers, the opportunity represents a significant change in their legal and economic circumstances. Individuals who obtain residency permits may gain access to formal employment opportunities, labor protections, healthcare services, and other social benefits available to legal residents.

Community representatives have welcomed the development, describing it as a major relief for thousands of families who have lived for years with uncertainty regarding their immigration status.

Officials noted that the documentation support initiative reflects Pakistan’s efforts to assist citizens living abroad and help them comply with the legal requirements of host countries.

The regularization process is expected to improve employment stability and social integration for many beneficiaries while reducing the risks associated with undocumented status.

Spain has periodically introduced immigration regularization measures in response to labor market needs and humanitarian considerations. Such programs aim to bring undocumented workers into the formal economy while ensuring compliance with national immigration laws.

The latest initiative is expected to provide long-term legal certainty for thousands of Pakistani nationals seeking to build stable lives and careers in Spain.
