The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has launched a special pre-Eidul Adha bird and wildlife hazard management campaign at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi to improve aviation safety during the busy holiday period.
According to officials at Jinnah International Airport, the campaign focuses on reducing the risk of bird strikes, which often increase during Eid due to improper disposal of animal waste in surrounding areas.
As part of the initiative, airport teams have intensified cleaning operations in and around the airfield to ensure a safer operational environment for aircraft during Eidul Adha flights and increased passenger movement.

Awareness materials, including pamphlets, have been distributed among drivers, local residents, and nearby mosques. These messages highlight the importance of proper disposal of sacrificial animal remains and its direct link to aviation safety.
Officials explained that waste left in open areas attracts birds, which increases the risk of bird strikes and can potentially impact flight safety and airport operations.
In coordination with local authorities, sanitation drives are also being carried out in identified hotspots around the airport to eliminate waste accumulation and reduce bird activity near flight paths.

The Pakistan Airports Authority has appealed to the public to dispose of Qurbani waste only in designated locations and to support efforts aimed at maintaining cleanliness around sensitive aviation zones.
Authorities also issued a special video message ahead of Eidul Adha, emphasizing cleanliness, safety awareness, and responsible waste management to ensure smooth airport operations during the festive rush.

It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in submission to divine command, and is marked by the ritual of Qurbani (animal sacrifice), followed by the distribution of meat among family, relatives, and those in need.
During this period, large-scale Qurbani activities take place across Pakistan, including major cities like Karachi, where millions of animals are sacrificed over three days of Eid.
While the festival promotes charity, sharing, and community spirit, it also creates significant environmental and public safety challenges if waste is not properly managed.

In this context, PAA has launched a special pre-Eidul Adha bird and wildlife hazard management campaign at Jinnah International Airport to improve aviation safety during the busy holiday season.
During this season bird strikes – one of the major risks for aircraft – tend to increase during Eid due to improper disposal of sacrificial animal waste in surrounding areas.
Open dumping of offal and remains attracts birds and other wildlife, which can interfere with flight paths and pose serious safety risks.
