In a major move to improve flow of traffic and control violations, the Karachi Traffic Police has announced the formation of a modern Traffic Flow Unit (TFU) to tackle congestion across the city.

DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah shared details of the initiative in an interview with local news channel, stating that the unit will soon be deployed on key roads in Karachi.

He said that based on survey data, 36 major congestion points or choke points have been identified, which frequently lead to violations such as one-way driving.

While responding to a question, DIG Karachi Pir Muhammad Shah acknowledged that the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) is currently not operational on University Road, resulting in fewer fines being issued in the area for traffic violations.

He further explained that during the initial four-month of TRACS learning phase, the department identified the need to equip on-ground officers with enforcement tools.

As a result, around 30 Station Officers are being provided with gadgets and mobile applications to issue faceless e-tickets to violators.

The unit will operate under the supervision of DSP TRACS and overall command of the DIG Traffic Karachi, ensuring structured management and accountability, as reported by local media.

Officials added that the integration of technology, real-time monitoring, and on-ground feedback will help improve traffic flow and enhance road safety for citizens.
