However, essential service departments, including emergency and utility services, will continue operations and are exempt from the notification.
At the federal level, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also approved the same two-day holiday schedule.
The decision was formalized through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, ensuring uniform observance across government offices nationwide.
The notification further clarifies that all federal offices, whether operating on five-day or six-day workweeks, will remain closed on March 20 and 21 in observance of Eid.
Extended Weekend for Employees
Government employees are expected to enjoy an extended break, as March 22 falls on a Sunday, followed by a public holiday on March 23, observed as Pakistan Day.
This effectively creates a four-day long weekend from Friday to Monday.

The extended holiday period is likely to allow families more time for celebrations, travel, and gatherings during the festive occasion.
Eidul Fitr is one of the most significant religious festivals in Pakistan, celebrated at the end of Ramadan.
Each year, federal and provincial governments announce public holidays to facilitate nationwide observance, with final dates often aligned with the lunar calendar and moon sighting.
