The Government of Pakistan has announced new chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) for a four-year term amid the ongoing regional tensions.

As per the official announcement, Zia Hussain Shah has been announced as the new chairman of the PNRA for a four-year term.
Shah previously served as an executive member of PNRA and brings over 30 years of experience in technical and administrative roles.

Shah has played a key role in strengthening nuclear safety standards in Pakistan and has significant international experience in nuclear regulatory affairs, including leading several international review missions.
The PNRA is Pakistan’s national regulatory authority responsible for ensuring nuclear safety and radiation protection.

Its mandate covers the licensing and supervision of nuclear reactors and fuel cycle facilities, oversight of radioactive materials, and the management, security, and disposal of spent nuclear fuel.
Established as one of two successor agencies to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), the PNRA is central to maintaining Pakistan’s nuclear security framework and compliance with international standards.
