An eight-year-old girl has died of rabies in Sindh, marking the first confirmed rabies-related death reported in the province this year, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the details, the girl was a resident of Sanghar and was brought to Indus Hospital in Karachi two days ago in critical condition.

Hospital authorities said the child had already reached the final stage of rabies infection when she was admitted, leaving doctors with limited treatment options.

Media reports highlighted that the girl had been bitten by a dog around one and a half months ago but did not receive timely and complete medical treatment after the incident.

As a result, the rabies virus gradually progressed in her body and eventually proved fatal.

The hospital administration confirmed that the child could not survive the deadly disease due to delayed treatment and lack of full vaccination.

Karachi sees alarming increase in dog bite cases

Medical experts say rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it can be prevented if proper treatment is given immediately after a dog bite.

Health experts have urged parents and guardians to take dog bite incidents seriously and act without delay.

They advised that any dog bite wound should be washed thoroughly with soap and clean water for several minutes and that the victim must be taken to a hospital immediately for vaccination and further medical care.
