The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rainfall in Karachi and several other districts of Sindh, warning that the wet spell may further intensify cold weather conditions across the region.

According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is currently affecting the upper parts of the country and is expected to begin impacting Balochistan from tonight on January 21.

As a result, snowfall is likely in the hilly areas of northern Balochistan, while rain and snowfall are expected in Quetta and surrounding districts.

Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Anjum Nazir Zaigham, said the weather system is expected to enter Sindh’s western regions from Thursday, Jan 22, bringing rainfall to several districts.

He added that Karachi could also receive light rain during this period, meanwhile the cold likely to intensify across the region from January 23.

Weather officials warned that the rainfall may lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures.

Earlier to this, PMD has forecast rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in Karachi and several parts of Sindh, as a new weather system is expected to affect large parts of the country in the coming days.

According to the Met Office, a shallow westerly wave is likely to enter the upper regions of Pakistan from January 16 and may persist until January 19.

The system is expected to strengthen further from January 20, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall to many areas across the country from January 21 onward.
