He added that the Sindh government aims to expand the service further.
“Our goal is to introduce double-decker buses on every major road in Karachi by 2026. New routes for electric buses will also be launched across Sindh, including Karachi, from next week,” he stated.
The minister said all public transport services would continue to operate on subsidised fares, with the remaining cost being covered by the Sindh government.
“At present, around 125,000 people travel daily through the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi. On the Orange Line and Green Line, about 75,000 passengers commute every day. Our effort is to increase this number to 100,000 and to continue expanding routes daily so that the public can benefit from better transport facilities,” Sharjeel Memon said.
“The double-decker buses will offer citizens a quality travel experience. They will operate from Model Colony to Zainab Market and will prove to be a major convenience for commuters,” the minister remarked.
Sharjeel Memon further said that similar buses would be introduced in other cities of Sindh to help reduce traffic congestion by carrying a larger number of passengers.
